2016 Crafting Goals

2015 went by so fast and we're already 1 week into 2016. People make a list of their goals on the 1st January of every year but I like to take a few days to think about what I want to do and plan it all out. If this is your 1st time visiting my blog, you can view here my 2015 crafting goals.

I was able to complete most of them, but still will be striving through 2016 to fulfill more. Most of my goals are still the same, but just need to puch myself a bit more. So, without further ado, I present to you my Crafting Goals for 2016:

POST AT LEAST ONE CARD EVERY WEEK
I wasn't very consistent on this goal last year. Did a bit of catch-up in the last quarter of the year during Diwali, Thanksgiving and Christmas. Posted a series of cards every 2-3 days. Making new cards really left me feeling good, being able to achieve that.
So, that's why this one will be a tough goal to keep, but with all of you providing encouragement I will strive and do my very best to uphold it!

SUBMIT TO MORE CHALLENGES
As I had mentioned last year, I did participate in a few challenges and to be true, they did help me come out of my comfort zone. I tried a lot of different sketches, color combos etc. I'm planning to do more of it.
Participating in these challenges even brought me the opportunity to work on Sketch Saturday Design Team. So, I guess I'm just going to continue doing it more and more and more....

USE MY ACCUMULATED CRAFT STASH
Over the past few years, I have accumulated a lot of pattern paper pads, stamps, ribbon, etc. So I have decided that this year, if I feel like I need new inspiration then I'm going to "Shop My Stash". Ever few weeks, I'm going to use my stamps, dies, embossing folders in rotation so that all get used.

Also I will be buying only basic crafting stuff that too when required. Now you must think, what is categorized as basic crafting stuff. I have defined card stock, adhesive, foam tape, envelopes under this category.

TRY MAKING SHAPED CARDS
I have been following a lot of people on Pinterest who make dimensional cards in various shapes. I want to try making those in this year. I’m going to start by making regular cards in different shapes, then as I master that I’m planning to add more dimension to it. Lets see how it goes!

SEND MORE BIRTHDAY CARDS
I have realized that over the years, I make a lot of cards, but forget to post it out on time to my near and dear ones on their special days. In 2015 I made it a point to post my Diwali and Christmas cards to all my loved one. But this year I even plan to send cards on other occasions.

WORK ON NON-CARD PROJECTS
What do I mean by this? Well, in the past years, I have posted some projects I did which were not greeting cards. Something like a painting, art journaling, quilling projects, jewelry making etc…… I haven’t thought through this one completely, but I think I will be trying to do at least 1 non-card project a month or so. Lets see what I’m able to create.

BRING MY ART TO DIGITAL WORLD
I have learning digital artwork techniques for a few months now. I would certainly like to bring them to all of you soon. I’m working towards it. I hope to display my work soon.

AND FINALLLYYYYY………..

HAVE FUN WITH IT
Stop taking it all so seriously. This is a hobby and it brings me great, great joy. It has introduced me to a lot of new friends, fellow artists, amazing talent, products, companies, opportunities, techniques... but it is not life or death. If I don't win or don't get picked up for publication or don't get noticed or don't get on  Design Teams - that is not failure.

That is life. And if I put (unhealthy) pressure on myself and get downbeat about not being good at something out there then that will take some of the love and joy out of the creativity that I enjoy so much. I also need to remind myself not to pull my hair if I get stuck at something , eat healthy and get enough sleep every day.

Yes, I will still be competitive. Yes I will still be ambitious. Yes I will still want to keep getting better and better then what I’m right now, and then better myself some more. But I will do it all whilst having fun.

And there you have it - my Crafting Goals for 2016! So, I do hope you'll keep joining me throughout 2015 to provide support and encouragement as I keep working towards these goals. 2015 was a great year for crafting for me...
